Crime News: In a high-profile incident in Raipur, Chhattisgarh's capital, a rave party organized by affluent locals came to an abrupt halt when members of the Hindu Yuva Manch intervened. The party, held at Hotel Lalit Mahal, featured a DJ flown in from Mumbai and an abundance of foreign liquor. Attendees included several well-known figures from the city. The Hindu Yuva Manch claimed that, in addition to alcohol, various drugs, and illicit substances were being used at the event. Reports also suggest that minors under the age of 18 were present.

Questions arise over police permission

There are allegations that the event had received prior approval from both the police and local administration. This has sparked outrage, particularly as the Raipur police have been running the Mukti Abhiyan, a campaign against drug abuse. The apparent contradiction between the police's public stance on drugs and the occurrence of such events under their watch raises significant concerns. Despite the police's efforts to curb drug use, private parties like this one seem to be flourishing, particularly in high-end hotels where drugs are reportedly served openly.

Home Minister's concerns over drug abuse in Chhattisgarh

The issue of rising drug use in Chhattisgarh has not gone unnoticed by the country's leadership. During a recent visit to Raipur, Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his alarm over the situation, stating that drug abuse had escalated in the region. He had also inaugurated a new NCB office in Naya Raipur to tackle the problem. However, the continuation of such events, despite increased scrutiny, calls into question the effectiveness of these measures.

Growing trend in Raipur

Once limited to metropolitan cities, rave parties are now becoming more common in Raipur, mimicking similar events in foreign countries. These parties, often held in luxurious hotels, charge exorbitant fees for entry, with alcohol and illegal drugs being major attractions. Despite the accolades received by the Raipur police for their anti-drug campaign, these underground events continue to thrive.

What is rave party?

A rave party is an event typically aimed at the youth, featuring a mix of loud music, usually provided by a professional DJ, and vibrant, multi-colored lighting. These parties often involve the use of various intoxicants, which, when combined with the music and lighting, amplify the effects of the substances. Such events are usually held in large venues like city hotels, and they attract a young crowd, including the children of prominent businesspeople, politicians, and officials.
