In a disturbing event on the Barauni-Delhi Humsafar Express, a railway employee was allegedly involved in molesting a teenage girl in the AC coach. The situation escalated when enraged passengers assaulted him, leading to his death. The accused, Prashant Kumar, was taken into custody by the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Kanpur Central, but his condition deteriorated, and he was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Prashant Kumar, a 34-year-old Group D railway employee from Muzaffarpur, Bihar, had boarded the Humsafar Express with a general ticket, which was later upgraded to an AC seat after paying a penalty. Around 11:30 pm, he allegedly lured a teenage girl, traveling with her family from Gurugram, to sit next to him. During this time, it is claimed that he molested her.

The terrified girl initially stayed silent but later informed her mother of the incident. Upon learning of the assault, her family and nearby passengers confronted Kumar, which quickly escalated into a physical altercation. By the time the train arrived at Kanpur Central Station, Kumar had been severely beaten.

Medical emergency and legal proceedings

Once in GRP custody, Kumar's health declined rapidly after reviewing the medical report. He was rushed to KPM Hospital, where doctors declared him dead in the afternoon. His body was then sent for a postmortem examination. On the complaint of the victim's mother, the GRP registered a case under molestation and POCSO sections. The case has now been transferred to Lucknow for further investigation.
