After entering the Parliament, Gandhi paid tributes at the Gandhi statue before taking part in the Parliamentary proceedings, which restarted at 12:00 PM following a small adjournment due to sloganeering and ruckus from the opposition.
The Parliament membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been reinstated by the Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday.

“The Supreme Court of India has passed an order… staying the conviction of Shri Rahul Gandhi, Member of Lok Sabha representing the Wayanad Parliamentary Constituency of Kerala, which was ordered by the judgment… of the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Surat…,” an order on the website of the Lok Sabha Secretariat read.
“In view of order… the disqualification of Shri Rahul Gandhi… has ceased to operate to subject to further judicial pronouncements.”
Gandhi had his Lok Sabha membership automatically revoked in March after he was convicted in a criminal defamation case in connection with his ‘Modi’ surname remarks and subsequently sentenced to two years in prison.
The conviction was temporarily paused on Friday by the Supreme Court after noting that the Surat trial court did not provide sufficient reasons for imposing the maximum sentence on Rahul Gandhi.
Rahul Gandhi was an MP from the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency from 2019.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Saturday said that he had sent all the necessary documents to Speaker Om Birla concerning the revocation of Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from the Lok Sabha.
The delay in reinstating the Lok Sabha membership of Rahul Gandhi, who has already lost two Parliament sessions, was criticised by various members of opposition parties.
“The readiness and happiness with which the BJP government took Rahul Gandhi’s membership in the matter of few hours based on the decision of the Surat Sessions Court, why so much delay in restoring it even after the decision of the Supreme Court?” Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav wrote in a Twitter post.
“Has the Modi government, which trampled the Constitution and democracy and created a mountain of hatred and failures in 9 years, scared of the unity of the opposition and the public?”

“While conspiring to snatch the membership of the MPs and MLAs of the BJP opposition, it has now itself become its victim. Now let’s see how quickly it suspends the membership of its MP and how quickly they restore the membership of others. The conspiracy of BJP has now been exposed,” Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav tweeted.
