Visiting Displaced Families

On his visit to Assam, Rahul Gandhi met with families who were forced to flee their homes in Manipur due to escalating violence and unrest. These residents are currently living in temporary shelters, facing numerous challenges. Gandhi's visit seems to aim to understand their struggles firsthand and provide a platform for their voices to be heard. He spent time listening to their stories, offering comfort, and assuring them of his support. This incident took place around the time when PM Modi's visiting Russia.

Addressing the Crisis

The situation in Manipur has been dire for a long time, with ethnic tensions and violence causing widespread displacement. Gandhi's visit is part of a larger effort to bring national attention to this humanitarian crisis. During his interactions, he emphasized the need for immediate and effective measures to restore peace and stability in the region. He also called for a coordinated response from state and central governments to ensure the safety and well-being of the displaced families.

After new waves of violence in the state caused by ethnic disputes last month, almost 1,700 inhabitants of Jiribam in Manipur moved into neighboring Assam. Gandhi will continue by road to Jiribam, Manipur after he visits the relief camp, and he will then stop at Jiribam Higher Secondary School. After arriving in Imphal, he would take a road trip to the Churachandpur district, stopping at the Mandap relief camp near Tuibong. Later in the day, he will visit another aid camp at Phubala High School before driving to Moirang, which is controlled by Meitei. Gandhi is scheduled to visit Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal.
