Rahul Gandhi's AIIMS Visit: A Stark Reminder of Government Indifference as Patients Sleep on Streets (X/ )

New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, recently visited the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi, where he expressed strong criticism of both the BJP-led Central government and the Delhi government. During his visit, Gandhi interacted with patients and their families who were awaiting treatment, highlighting their struggles and the government's lack of empathy.

A Night at AIIMS: Patients' Plight Revealed

On Thursday night, Rahul Gandhi engaged with patients and their attendants, as shared by the Congress party on its social media platforms. Videos from the visit depict him listening attentively to their concerns and receiving written notes from some individuals, which he promised to pass on to his staff. The Congress party's post emphasized the dire situation at AIIMS, stating, "Waiting for months for treatment, inconvenience and insensitivity of the government – this is the reality of Delhi AIIMS today."

Government Neglect Exposed

The Congress party's message underscored the harsh realities faced by patients who have traveled long distances for medical care. Many are forced to sleep on footpaths or in subway stations due to inadequate facilities. "People who have come from far away places for treatment are forced to sleep on the roads, footpaths, and subways here," the post noted. The party accused both the Modi government and the AAP-led Delhi government of neglecting their responsibilities towards these vulnerable individuals.

A Personal Encounter with Suffering

In a poignant statement on Instagram, Rahul Gandhi described his encounter with patients enduring extreme hardships. He stated, "Burden of disease, biting cold, and government insensitivity today I met patients and their families outside AIIMS who have come from far and wide in search of treatment." He further articulated their plight: "On their path to get treatment, they are forced to sleep on roads, footpaths, and subways - just keeping a flame of hope burning amidst the cold ground, hunger, and inconveniences."

Voices from the Ground

Patients shared their harrowing experiences during this visit. One patient recounted how Gandhi offered assistance by taking her contact information to ensure support for her 13-year-old daughter battling blood cancer. Another individual named Govind Lal shared that Gandhi inquired about his family's situation and treatment progress. The stark reality is that many families are left waiting in freezing temperatures without adequate resources.

Rahul Gandhi's visit to AIIMS has shed light on a critical issue—government insensitivity towards patients in dire need of medical attention. His interactions reflect a growing concern about healthcare accessibility in India.
