New Delhi: Today, Congress leader and MP from Rae Bareli, Rahul Gandhi, took oath in Parliament. Notably, he carried a copy of the Constitution as he took his pledge. Following the oath, he shook hands with the marshal standing behind the chair and raised the slogans "Jai Hind" and "Jai Samvidhaan."

Protecting Constitution is duty

Rahul Gandhi emphasized the importance of safeguarding the Constitution. He posted on social media platform X, "Protecting the Constitution is the duty of every patriotic Indian, we will fulfill this duty completely." This statement reflects his commitment to upholding constitutional values and principles.

Oath-taking ceremony details

During the ceremony, Rahul Gandhi declared, "I, Rahul Gandhi, having been elected as a member of the Lok Sabha, sincerely pledge that I will have true faith and loyalty towards the Constitution of India established by law. I will keep the sovereignty and integrity of India intact. I will faithfully discharge the responsibility that I am about to assume."

Akhilesh Yadav also takes oath

Simultaneously, Akhilesh Yadav, the Samajwadi Party MP from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, also took his oath in Parliament, carrying a copy of the Constitution as well. This gesture highlights the significance of the Constitution to these leaders.

NDA-INDIA bloc face-off for Lok Sabha speaker

The first day of the 18th Lok Sabha saw 262 newly elected MPs, including Prime Minister Modi, taking their oaths. However, a heated contest is underway between the ruling NDA and the opposition INDIA Bloc for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker. Due to a lack of consensus, both alliances have nominated different candidates.

The Protem Speaker will conduct a vote tomorrow, 26 June, to elect the next Speaker. The candidates are Om Birla, a three-time MP from Kota, Rajasthan, representing the NDA, and Kodikunnil Suresh, an eight-time MP from Mavelikara, Kerala, representing the INDIA Bloc.
