Rahul Gandhi Nationality: Allahabad High Court has once again sought clarification from the Home Ministry on the citizenship status of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The court’s inquiry follows a petition that questions whether Gandhi holds Indian citizenship or is, in fact, a citizen of the United Kingdom (UK).

Gandhi's citizenship petition resurfaces

The issue of Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship has been the subject of legal scrutiny for some time, with petitions filed in the past. A similar petition was dismissed by the court a few months ago, but the matter has resurfaced with renewed attention. The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court is now hearing the case, with the latest petition filed by Vignesh Shishir on September 12. The petitioner has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry and called for the cancellation of Gandhi’s Indian citizenship based on his alleged British nationality.

Home Ministry asked to respond

In the current hearing, the Allahabad High Court has directed the Home Ministry to provide a detailed clarification regarding Rahul Gandhi’s citizenship. The court has set the next hearing date for September 30, by which time the Home Ministry is expected to respond to the claims made in the petition.

Earlier petition dismissed

It is worth noting that this is not the first time the question of Gandhi’s citizenship has been raised in the legal system. Earlier this year, a similar petition was dismissed by the court in July. At that time, the court had advised the petitioner to file a complaint with the competent authority under the Citizenship Act before escalating the matter to the judiciary.

Next hearing on September 30

The petition has once again brought the focus back to Rahul Gandhi's citizenship status. The upcoming hearing on September 30 will likely shed light on the Home Ministry’s official stance and whether the case will be further pursued.
