New Delhi: On Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi, the Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address derogatory comments made against him by BJP members. He expressed his concerns about the ongoing disruptions in Parliament and emphasized the need for a constructive dialogue.

'I held a meeting with the Speaker. I told him that derogatory comments against me should be expunged. The Speaker said that he would look into it,'Gandhi stated, underscoring his commitment to ensuring that parliamentary proceedings continue despite provocations from the ruling party. He highlighted that their primary objective is for the House to function effectively, stating, 'Our aim is that the House must run and discussion should happen in the House'.

Constitution Debate Scheduled Amidst Tensions

Gandhi reiterated his determination to hold a debate on December 13 regarding the Constitution, despite the BJP's attempts to divert attention from pressing issues such as the Adani controversy. He remarked,

'No matter what they say about me, we want to have a debate on December 13...They don't want a discussion on Adani. In the end, we will not leave this'. His remarks come in light of recent allegations made by BJP MPs Nishikant Dubey and Sambit Patra, who claimed connections between Gandhi and Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros.

The situation escalated on December 5 when Dubey accused Gandhi of colluding with Soros and receiving funds from him for political activities. This sparked significant unrest among Congress members, leading them to protest within the House .

Priyanka Gandhi Defends Her Brother Amidst Accusations

In a show of solidarity, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra defended her brother outside Parliament, responding to Patra's accusations by stating, 'Those who can call Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi traitors have no qualms about calling Rahul Gandhi one. There is nothing new in this. I am proud of my brother, and for him, nothing is above this country'.

As tensions continue to rise in Parliament with repeated adjournments due to protests from both sides, Rahul Gandhi remains steadfast in his call for accountability and meaningful discussions on critical national issues.
