The Congress party leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday lashed out at the ruling government after receiving fresh notices from the Income Tax department. Gandhi alleged that when the power changes, strict action will be taken against those who are trying to ‘murder the democracy.’

The Congress accused the Income Tax Department on Friday of operating with double standards, saying that although it was fined for "a violation of Rs 14 lakh," the tax authorities remained silent about the BJP's "Rs 42 crore violation" and that the ruling party at the center was subject to penalties totaling Rs 4,600 crore.

Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, in the meantime, declared that the party would fight the elections with all of its strength and that members of Congress are never intimidated.

Notably, the Congress party is already running short of funds after the Income Tax department levied a penalty of Rs 200 crore, resulting in an immediate financial crisis. The high court has not provided it with any relief. For which Congress is likely to approach the Supreme Court.

About the Lok Sabha elections, the BJP is running a 'Modi ki guarantee' campaign, which emphasizes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge to fulfill all his election promises.

The Income Tax authorities sent Congress a new notice on Friday requesting that they pay Rs 1,800 crore to settle differences in tax filings from prior years.

The Congress denounced the notice as "egregious" and charged the BJP with engaging in "tax terrorism".

The party also questioned, why the is BJP getting this penalty exemption. In the tweet, Kharge highlighted that Congress was fined Rs 135 Cr for Rs 14 lakh deposits, and its account was frozen. But in the last 7 years, this penalty to BJP amounts to a whopping Rs 4,600 Crore.
