Rahul Gandhi points out 2 footnotes in Women’s Reservation Bill

Addressing a press conference, Rahul Gandhi said, “Women’s reservation is a good thing, but we found two footnotes – one is that the Census will have to be done before implementation of the bill, and the second is delimitation.”

Yet, the Congress leader has raised questions on the timeline for the implementation of the bill, Rahul Gandhi said, “Nobody knows if this will even be implemented. This is a distraction and a diversion tactic from OBC census.”

“The truth is that the reservation can be implemented today. This is not a complicated matter, but the government doesn’t want to do that. The government has presented this before the country but it will be implemented 10 years from now,” he added.

Congress MP on not providing OBC quota in this bill

When asked if he regrets that the OBC reservation was not provided under the bill brought by UPA in 2010, he said, “100 per cent regret hai. This should have been done then. We will get this done.”

On Thursday, the Parliament passed the Women’s Reservation Bill after all 214 Rajya Sabha voted in its favour.

Following the passage of the bill, Prime Minister Narendra Modi thanked the MPs for supporting the legislature.

When it will be implemented?

The 128th Constitution amendment bill, referred to as the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, is now to get the approval of a majority of the state assemblies.

Notably, this much-awaited bill will be implemented after a delimitation exercise to redraw parliamentary and assembly constituencies based on census which the government has said will be commissioned in 2024.
