Reacting to a question at a news conference in Brussels Press Club, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi while taking a jibe at NDA, called the name change ‘a panic reaction’. “INDIA vs Bharat row is a panic reaction and shows the fear of the government, said Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.

“I am perfectly happy with the name in the constitution — India that is Bharat. This works perfectly well for me. These to me in a sense are panic reactions. There is a little bit of fear in the government. These are distraction tactics. We of course came up with the name INDIA for our coalition and it’s a fantastic idea. This represents who we are. We consider ourselves to be the voice of India. So, the name works very well,” Rahul Gandhi said.

“But it surely disturbed the prime minister enough that he wants to change the name of the country which is absurd. But that’s what it is,” Rahul Gandhi said.

The row ignited after President Droupadi Murmu sent the invitation for the G20 dinner as ‘President of Bharat’ instead of ‘President of India’. The INDIA vs Bharat row has initiated war of words among the political parties against NDA. Meanwhile, there have been speculations on the change in name from India to Bharat, however, PM Narendra Modi has not commented on this.

In addition to this, during the addressal, Rahul Gandhi said that opposition bloc understands India’s relations with Russia, and contended they would by and large agree with the country’s position on the ongoing war in Ukraine.

Noteworthy is, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi is on a tour of Europe organised by the Indian Overseas Congress.
