New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is planning a raid against him following his recent 'Chakravyuh' speech in the Lok Sabha. In a social media post on X, the 54-year-old leader stated that he received information from sources within the ED indicating an imminent raid. Despite this, Gandhi asserted his defiance, stating he would welcome the ED officials with "open arms."

"Apparently, 2 in 1 didn’t like my Chakravyuh speech. ED ‘insiders’ tell me a raid is being planned. Waiting with open arms @dir_ed…..Chai and biscuits on me," Gandhi wrote. This statement comes after his sharp critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Union Budget 2024 discussion in the Lok Sabha on July 29.

'Chakravyuh' speech explained

During the Union Budget discussion, Gandhi used the concept of 'Chakravyuh' from the Mahabharata to criticize the central government. He drew a parallel between the epic’s strategic warfare and the current political landscape, highlighting perceived challenges and traps in government policies.

"Thousands of years ago, in Kurukshetra, six people trapped Abhimanyu in a 'Chakravyuh' and killed him. I did a little research and found out that 'Chakravyuh' is also known as 'Padmavyuh', which means 'Lotus formation'. 'Chakravyuh' is in the shape of a Lotus. In the 21st century, a new 'Chakravyuh' has been formed - that too in the form of a Lotus. The Prime Minister wears its symbol on his chest. What was done with Abhimanyu, is being done with India - the youth, farmers, women, and small and medium businesses. Abhimanyu was killed by six people. Today, too, there are six people in the center of the 'Chakravyuh'. Six people control India today too - Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Mohan Bhagwat, Ajit Doval, Ambani, and Adani," Gandhi elaborated.

Response from Anurag Thakur

Following Gandhi’s remarks, BJP Lok Sabha MP Anurag Thakur criticized him, referring to Gandhi's statements on Mahabharata and Chakravyuh. Thakur commented that some people are 'accidental Hindus' with accidental knowledge of the Mahabharata. He dismissed Gandhi’s critiques as misguided and uninformed.

Middle-class concerns

Gandhi also addressed the budget’s impact on the middle class, stating it has betrayed those who once showed enthusiastic support for Prime Minister Modi by banging thalis. He claimed the government's 'Chakravyuh' is harming millions, particularly the youth, farmers, and small businesses.
