New Delhi: A terrifying incident unfolded on Sunday when a family of four, including a 10-year-old boy, had a close brush with death after the cab they were traveling in overturned. The accident occurred on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, where a BMW, allegedly racing a Mercedes, lost control and collided with the familys Wagon R.The Worli police have since arrested both drivers involved—Shahbaz Khan, 31, who was driving the Mercedes, and Tariq Chaudhary, 29, the driver of the BMW. They face charges of attempted culpable homicide, not amounting to murder, under the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the Motor Vehicles Act for rash and negligent driving.How did it happenAccording to police, the accident took place around 10:30 PM near pillar number 19 on the northbound stretch of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. Nisar Ahmed, 26, was driving the Maruti Wagon R that was struck. He was ferrying a family—a husband and wife, their young son, and an elderly woman—towards Bandra when the incident occurred.While Nisars cab was moving on the left side of the road, both the Mercedes and BMW were reportedly speeding and approached from behind. As the vehicles neared the cab, the Mercedes and BMW collided with each other, causing the BMW to swerve into the Wagon R.“Due to the impact, the cab overturned after striking the road railings and hitting the divider,” said a police source, emphasizing how fortunate the family was to escape with no serious injuries.Police response Following the crash, the police control room was immediately alerted. Both drivers, Khan and Chaudhary, were swiftly apprehended by the Worli police. A police officer confirmed that both men are employees of a private company, and the vehicles involved were registered under the name of their respective companies.“They have been arrested under serious charges, and we have applied sections from the BNS and the Motor Vehicles Act. They will be presented before the court on Monday,” the officer added.Although no one sustained severe injuries, the incident has raised concerns over speeding and reckless driving on Mumbais busy Sea Link.
