Some distressing visuals have surfaced on social media which shows that on Friday, a group of devotees returning from Haridwar with Gangajal halted at Pramod Kumar's restaurant in Muzaffarnagar. Angered by onion seasoning in their food, they vandalized the restaurant, expressing their displeasure violently.

However, the official statement on it is still awaited...

Meanwhile, it is important to note that this has come after the Uttar Pradesh government directed the eateries to display the nameplate on their shops or carts en route to Kanwar Yatra. Notably, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath has mandated the use of ID cards at the eateries that resulted in the political slugfest between the BJP and the opposition parties. The decision has drawn sharp criticism from the opposition parties, who have accused the government of isolating one community.

Following the lines of Uttar Pradesh, the Uttarakhand government also directed the eateries to display the name of the owners on the Kanwar Yatra route.

The Kanwar Yatra, a sacred pilgrimage of devotees of Lord Shiva will begin on July 22.
