In a chilling crime from Delhi's Khayala area, a 22-year-old man murdered his 45-year-old widowed mother, disguising the act as a robbery. The accused, identified as Sawan, was arrested after police investigations unraveled his fabricated story.

The murder occurred on Friday in Raghubir Nagar. Sawan, the younger of two unmarried brothers, killed his mother, Sulochana, during a heated argument. Sulochana, a widow whose husband had served as an army lieutenant before passing away in 2019, became the victim of her son's rage when she opposed his plans to marry a girl of his choice.

Tragic incident

According to police reports, a distress call was received at 8:30 PM from Sawan, claiming that his mother had been killed during a robbery. He alleged the perpetrator also snatched her earrings. When officers arrived at the scene and subsequently visited the hospital, they noticed no signs of theft. Valuable items in the house were untouched, casting doubt on Sawan's version of events.

Police investigation and confession

With suspicion mounting, the police filed an FIR and began questioning family members and neighbors. Sawan’s behavior raised red flags, prompting investigators to interrogate him further. Technical evidence and consistent questioning revealed discrepancies in his story. Eventually, Sawan confessed to killing his mother.

The motive: Clash over Marriage

Sawan admitted he was furious after his mother scolded him for wanting to marry a girl he had been in a relationship with. Sulochana allegedly threatened to disinherit him if he pursued the matter. Hurt and angered, Sawan planned the murder and attempted to mislead authorities by staging a robbery.

Sulochana’s elder son, Kapil, works as an accountant, while Sawan earns a living driving a goods transport vehicle. The stark contrast between the brothers' paths adds another layer of tragedy to the family’s plight.
