The birth of three new cheetah cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh is wonderful news for wildlife conservation efforts in India. According to a tweet from Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav, a female cheetah named Jwala has given birth, just weeks after another cheetah named Aasha also had cubs.

"Kuno's new cubs! Namibian Cheetah named Jwala has given birth to three cubs. This comes just weeks after Namibian Cheetah Aasha gave birth to her cubs," Mr Yadav announced on X on Tuesday.

"Congratulations to all wildlife frontline warriors and wildlife lovers across the country. May Bharat's wildlife thrive...," he added, sharing a video of the adorable newborns.

This joyous occasion comes after the sad passing of a 10-year-old male cheetah named Shaurya at Kuno on January 16, the 10th fatality since the animals were reintroduced from Africa last year. The cause of Shaurya's death is still being determined via postmortem examination, according to forest department statements.

Earlier in January, another Namibian cheetah gave birth to three cubs, continuing the success of the Cheetah Project, which saw eight cheetahs transported from Namibia to India last September. The new mother, Jwala was among those eight, and conservationists will be hoping she and the other new cheetah mothers can raise their cubs successfully at Kuno National Park.
