News Delhi: A shocking incident has emerged from Punjabs Jalandhar where a 12th-grade student named Lakshmi was brutally dragged by a motorcycle during an attempted mobile phone snatching. The disturbing event occurred in the Green Model Town area on Friday afternoon and has been widely circulated after being captured in a 44-second CCTV footage.Details of the incidentLakshmi, an 18-year-old resident of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, who currently lives in Green Model Town, was returning home with her younger sister and a neighbours daughter after visiting her sister-in-law. As they approached their home, three individuals on a motorcycle were observed watching them. One of the men, wearing a turban, was driving, while another, whose face was covered with a cloth, was riding a pillion.The man on the motorcycle initially said sorry, which confused Lakshmi and caused her to hesitate momentarily. As the motorcycle moved ahead, the pillion rider attempted to snatch Lakshmis mobile phone. Despite her brave effort to hold onto her phone, Lakshmi was dragged approximately 350 meters by the motorcycle. Her clothes were torn, but she was unable to prevent the snatching. The assailants managed to escape with her phone. Lakshmis sister and nearby residents chased after the attackers, but they were unable to catch them. We have reviewed the CCTV footage and are using it to track down the suspects. An investigation is underway to apprehend those responsible for this egregious crime, Chaudhary stated.
