The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday has confiscated the properties owned by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, a Khalistani extremist. According to the information, the move has been taken on the orders of the NIA court, after which a property confiscation notice has been pasted outside a house owned by banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) founder and designated terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, in Chandigarh.

The notice reads, “1/4th share of house no. # 2033 sector 15-C, Chandigarh, owned by Gurpatwant Singh Pannu, a ‘proclaimed offender’ in NIA case rc-19/2020/NIA/DLI, stands confiscated to the state under section 33(5) of the unlawful activities prevention act, 1967 by orders of the NIA special court, SAS Nagar, Mohali, Punjab dated 14/09/2023. This is for information of general public.”

The sources also said that a similar notice has also been posted on the agricultural land belonging to Pannun in his ancestral village Khankot in Amritsar. According to the information, the central probe agency has confiscated 46 kanal of agricultural land belonging to Pannun in the village in relation to a terror case registered in 2020.

A similar notice has been pasted outside the property of Khalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar also.

Who is Gurpatwant Singh Pannun?

Gurpatwant Singh Pannun is one of the founders of the US-based separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and actively demands for a separate state for Sikhs – Khalistan, in the US, Canada and the UK. According to the sources, Pannun, an attorney at law in the US and Canada, who has been offering employment abroad, besides cash incentives for hoisting the Khalistani flag on public buildings, is one of the founders of SFJ, which claims to be “an international advocacy and human rights group”.

Pannun has also worked closely with Hardeep Singh Nijjar whose killing has initiated a diplomatic rift between India and Canada.
