Punjab: Father of three dies in Gurdaspur after superstitious ritual goes horribly wrong; Video surfaces

New Delhi: In a shocking incident in Gurdaspur's Dhariwal area, a father of three lost his life due to a superstitious ritual. The incident took place in Singhpur village, where a pastor and his associates brutally assaulted Samuel Masih in a misguided attempt to "exorcise" him. The ritual involved severe beatings that led to Masih’s tragic death on the spot. Being a poor family, Masih's relatives initially did not approach the police. However, after two days, they decided to file a complaint, which led to an investigation.

Following the complaint, authorities, under the supervision of a duty magistrate, exhumed Masih's body for a postmortem. The district magistrate and police officials confirmed that a case has been registered against the pastor and nine others involved in the incident. Raids are underway to apprehend the accused individuals.

The incident has drawn widespread attention, highlighting the dangers of blind faith and superstitious beliefs that continue to thrive in certain communities. Masih’s mother, Rakhal, and his wife, Sunita, expressed their anguish over the senseless loss of life due to misguided beliefs. The case serves as a grim reminder of the need to address such superstitious practices and educate communities on the dangers they pose. Duty Magistrate Inderjit Kaur and DSP Kulwant Singh have assured that the investigation will be thorough and those responsible will be brought to justice.
