Punjab Canal and Drainage Bill: The Punjab government has initiated new projects to ensure the supply of canal water to farmers' fields. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, significant efforts are being made to strengthen the irrigation infrastructure. For the first time in Punjab's history, a canal named "Malwa Canal" is being constructed to address the irrigation needs of the southern regions.

Malwa Canal: Boosting Agriculture and Economy

The 150-kilometer-long Malwa Canal will play a pivotal role in promoting agriculture and economic growth in the Malwa region. This dedicated canal aims to resolve long-standing irrigation issues in the area, providing much-needed support to farmers and ensuring sustainable water supply.

Khanna Rajbaha Project: A ₹82.65 Crore Initiative

The Khanna Rajbaha project is being upgraded to enhance irrigation benefits across 72,202 acres of farmland. Currently, the canal releases 175 cusecs of water, which will be increased to 251.34 cusecs after the completion of the project. Additionally, the project involves concrete lining for 97.48 kilometers of the canal to improve water flow and reduce wastage.

Pipeline Project: Modernizing Irrigation

To bring water directly to farmers' fields, the government has started implementing underground pipeline systems. Many areas have already completed this work, while others are still in progress. These pipelines aim to minimize water wastage and ensure efficient distribution, marking a step forward in modernizing irrigation techniques. A New Era for Agriculture This initiative by the Punjab government is expected to strengthen the state's agriculture-based economy. In this 15,914 khal have been made operational to reach tail end to supply canal water.

Villages in Bassi Pathana, Khanna, and Samrala will directly benefit from these projects. The improved infrastructure will ensure water reaches tail-end farms, increasing the irrigated area and boosting agricultural productivity. Investment and Expectations The overall cost of these projects is estimated at 82.65 crore. This ambitious plan reflects Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann's commitment to uplifting the farming community. By addressing critical water needs, the government aims to create a new chapter in Punjab's agricultural development.
