Punjab bandh (X/@pti)
The ongoing bandh in Punjab has created widespread disruption in rail services, leaving travelers stranded and cargo transport delayed. Official reports indicate that 221 trains have been affected, with 157 cancellations and 14 rescheduled. The bandh, called by protesting farmer groups, has been ongoing since February 13 at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana, following the halting of their march to Delhi by security forces.
Farmers have announced plans to block rail tracks across several locations from 7 AM to 4 PM, leading to the cancellation of key passenger and goods trains. Among the affected trains are three prestigious Vande Bharat Express services: two connecting New Delhi to Vaishno Devi and one between New Delhi and Amb Andaura.

In addition to the Vande Bharat services, three Shatabdi Express trains operating from New Delhi to Kalka, Amritsar, and Chandigarh have also been canceled. The disruption has extended beyond Punjab, impacting trains in Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. Northern Railways has implemented additional measures, including the partial cancellation of seven trains, regulation of 14, rescheduling of 13, short-originating 15, and short-terminating 22 trains.
Ambala police have issued advisories for commuters traveling between Delhi and Chandigarh, suggesting alternative routes via Panchkula, Barwala, Mullana, Yamunanagar, Radaur, Ladwa, and NH-44 at Pipli to avoid delays.
The bandh has been organized by farmer groups, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, to press their demands. Sarvan Singh Pandher, leader of the Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee, stated that the protest aims to compel the central government to address the farmers’ grievances. Pandher criticized the union government for failing to meet their demands, highlighting the urgency of their cause.
This state-wide bandh underscores the growing tension between the farmers and the central government, with rail disruptions serving as a stark reminder of the ongoing struggle.
