New Delhi: In a recent development, a 17-year-old boy from Pune, involved in a tragic accident, has submitted a 300-word essay on road safety to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). This submission is part of the conditions for his bail, an official from the JJB revealed on Friday. The boy submitted the essay on Wednesday, fulfilling a requirement set by the JJB as part of his release from detention.

Initial legal proceedings

The teenager's case drew attention after a fatal accident on May 19 in Kalyani Nagar, Pune. According to police reports, the boy was driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol when he collided with a two-wheeler, killing two software engineers. Initially, the Juvenile Justice Board placed him in his parents' custody and mandated the essay as a bail condition.

This led the police to appeal for a revision of the terms, resulting in the boy being sent to an observation home on May 22. However, the Bombay High Court later ruled his detention illegal, emphasizing the correct application of juvenile justice laws, and ordered his release.

Legal troubles for family

The case took another turn when, on July 2, a Pune court granted bail to the boy’s father and grandfather. They were accused of kidnapping and wrongfully confining their family driver, attempting to coerce him into taking the blame for the accident.

The father, Vishal Agarwal, a prominent builder, and his grandfather had been in judicial custody since their arrest in May. Although the grandfather was released following the bail order, Agarwal remains in jail due to a separate cheating case.

Allegations of cover-up

Police investigations revealed that after the accident, the boy’s father and grandfather allegedly confined their family driver at their bungalow, pressuring him to claim he was driving the Porsche during the accident. Additionally, there were allegations of efforts to tamper with evidence, including swapping the boy’s blood samples at the hospital to conceal his intoxication.
