Pune rural police detains IAS trainee Puja Khedkar's mother from Raigad

New Delhi: The Pune Rural Police on Thursday arrested the controversial IAS-Probationary Officer Puja Khedkar's mother, Manoroma Khedkar, who was allegedly seen threatening farmers with a gun in her hand in an old video. 

Pune police arrests Puja Khedkar's mother 

Manorama Khedkar, mother of controversial IAS-Probationary Officer Puja Khedkar, was apprehended by Pune Rural Police on Thursday from Mahad in Raigad district. The arrest follows a case registered under the Arms Act after an old video surfaced allegedly showing Manorama threatening farmers with a firearm amidst a land dispute in Pune's Mulshi tehsil.

Pune Police filed an FIR 

Manorama and her husband Dilip Khedkar had been evading authorities since Pune Rural Police filed an FIR against them and five others under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. The charges include allegations of intimidating farmers to relinquish their land.

Video surfaced online 

The incident, which occurred approximately two months ago, resurfaced in videos showing Manorama Khedkar accompanied by security personnel, engaging in a heated altercation with farmers while brandishing a pistol. The affected farmers had attempted to file complaints at the time but claimed their efforts were stymied by alleged political interference. Local farmers have now called for a thorough investigation into the matter, highlighting ongoing tensions over land acquisition efforts by the Khedkar family, who reportedly own significant agricultural holdings in Pune.

Puja Khedkar herself gained notoriety recently for controversies surrounding alleged misuse of disability and OBC certificates during her civil service examination, along with issues concerning her conduct while serving in the Pune collector's office. These controversies have thrust the Khedkar family into the spotlight, drawing public and legal scrutiny.
