The investigation into the tragic Porsche accident in Pune has taken a startling turn as new CCTV footage emerged implicating officials from Sassoon General Hospital in a bribery scandal. According to reports by PTI, the footage shows hospital employees accepting a bribe to manipulate the blood sample of the 17-year-old accused driver involved in the accident.

What's in video?

Allegedly, Atul Ghatkamble, a hospital employee, received a sum of ₹3 lakh from an intermediary named Ashpak Makandar to facilitate the swap of the teen's blood sample. The bribe was purportedly paid under the pretext of influencing proceedings at the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). Ghatkamble, along with Dr. Ajay Taware, the suspended chief of the hospital's forensics section, and Dr. Shrihari Halnor, the former casualty medical officer, had already been detained earlier for alleged tampering with the minor's blood samples.

Blood sample manipulated

Initially, the teen's blood sample was collected at Sassoon General Hospital on May 19, shortly after the incident. However, due to suspicions of tampering, another sample was obtained at Aundh government Hospital. Subsequent investigation revealed that the initial sample had indeed been manipulated, leading to the arrest of the accused's mother, father, and grandfather.

Remand extended till June 25

In a separate development, the judicial remand of the accused teen has been extended until June 25 by the prosecution, citing concerns over his safety outside. Special Assistant Public Prosecutor Monali Kale emphasized to the Juvenile Justice Board that without adult supervision, it is safer for the teen to remain in the observation home.
