On Friday, Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced that the 17-year-old boy involved in the deadly Porsche accident on May 19 was in full control while driving. The crash, which occurred in Kalyani Nagar, instantly killed two individuals. During a press conference, Kumar detailed efforts to mislead the investigation by shifting blame to the family's driver.

Attempt to Mislead Investigators

Commissioner Kumar revealed that there were attempts to obscure the truth about the driver. "There was an attempt to show that the accused was not driving the vehicle and someone else was driving, but they couldn't do that," he stated. The teen’s family initially claimed their driver was behind the wheel during the accident. Supporting this claim, the family driver also initially stated he was driving the Porsche.

Evidence Confirms Teen as Driver

Kumar clarified that technical and CCTV evidence irrefutably placed the teen at the scene, driving the vehicle from his residence. "On the basis of technical and CCTV evidence, it is confirmed that the car was being driven by the juvenile," he said. This evidence countered the family's narrative and confirmed the boy's responsibility.

Legal Actions and Internal Inquiries

The police chief mentioned that actions under Section 201 (destruction of evidence) would be pursued against those attempting to mislead the investigation. He also indicated that an internal inquiry pointed to lapses by some police personnel during the case registration, promising action against those responsible. Special counsels will be appointed to represent the police's stance in court.

The accident claimed the lives of two young IT professionals, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, sparking public outrage and demands for justice.

Addressing Allegations of Preferential Treatment

Commissioner Kumar addressed accusations that the teen received special treatment while in custody, specifically claims that he was served "pizzas and burgers." He dismissed these allegations, stating, "We have not seen and nothing has come to our notice regarding any preferential treatment being given at the police station. If any negligence happened by Yerwada police, action will be taken."

In response to the incident, a Pune court cancelled the bail previously granted to the teen and ordered his transfer to a juvenile detention center, reflecting the gravity of the situation and the community's demand for accountability.
