Last Sunday, a 17-year-old boy from Pune, the son of a well-known local builder, faced the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) after a tragic incident where he drove under the influence of alcohol and fatally struck two people. His grandfather, a key figure in the family's construction business, stood surety for his bail, assuring the board that the teenager would change his ways.

Criminal Connections Exposed

New revelations have surfaced regarding the grandfather, who allegedly has underworld connections. According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he was involved in a criminal case dating back to 2009, where he reportedly hired a hitman from the Chhota Rajan gang to eliminate Shiv Sena corporator Ajay Bhosale. The CBI's charge sheet indicated that the grandfather had initially contracted Chhota Rajan to mediate a property dispute with his brother. When mediation failed, he escalated the matter to a murder plot.

Details of the 2009 Incident

In 2009, amidst the dispute, Chhota Rajan contacted Bhosale to pressure him into siding with the builder. When Bhosale refused to intervene, the builder allegedly ordered Rajan to have Bhosale killed. A hitman attempted to shoot Bhosale as he drove through Koregaon Park, but the bullet struck his driver instead, leaving Bhosale unharmed.

Bhosale recounted the incident, stating, "Sometime in 2009, I was contacted by Chhota Rajan to intervene in the property disputes between two brothers. Since I refused, the builder gave a contract to Rajan and accordingly the attack on me was orchestrated on October 11, 2009."

Legal Proceedings and Implications

An FIR was initially registered at the Bund Garden police station without mentioning the builder’s name. The CBI took over the investigation, uncovering the murder plot and implicating the builder, who is well-known for his upscale residential projects in Pune. The CBI's charge sheet listed the builder as the sixth accused, alongside Chhota Rajan, detailing their communications and the murder attempt.

In its 2020 submission to the CBI court, the agency highlighted that the builder used Rajan’s henchman, Vijay Tambat, to coordinate the attack. The builder managed to secure anticipatory bail and, like his grandson, did not spend any time behind bars despite being accused in the case.

Government Response

When questioned about the builder's underworld connections, Maharashtra Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated that the police would examine all aspects of the family's conduct. "The police will act on it accordingly," he assured the media.

This case continues to unfold, shedding light on the deeper criminal entanglements within the family of the teenager involved in the recent tragic accident.
