The court has decided to place the father of the minor under police custody for 48 hours, extending until May 24. This ruling follows an incident where the 17-year-old son collided his Porsche with a motorcycle from behind, tragically resulting in the death of two young professionals.

This action was taken subsequent to the detention of the father by the Pune crime branch team on Tuesday morning. The arrest was made in connection with the fatal accident that occurred in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Sunday, claiming the lives of two individuals employed in the technology sector.

Details of the Accident

In the early hours of Sunday, the Porsche, allegedly driven by the intoxicated teenager, collided with a motorcycle in Kalyani Nagar, killing two IT engineers. The minor was granted bail by the Juvenile Justice Board just hours after the incident, sparking nationwide outrage.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who oversees the home portfolio, expressed shock over the Juvenile Justice Board's decision to grant bail to the minor. Fadnavis urged that the teenager be tried as an adult, citing the severity of the accident.

Arrests and Charges

Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar stated, "The father of the teenage boy was placed under arrest on Tuesday evening hours after he was detained from Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar." The father, a real estate developer, was set to appear in court on Wednesday.

The police charged the father under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Section 75 addresses the "willful neglect of a child or exposing a child to mental or physical illnesses," while Section 77 pertains to supplying a child with intoxicating liquor or drugs.

Issues with Vehicle Registration

Top officials from the Maharashtra transport department revealed that the permanent registration of the Porsche involved in the accident had been pending since March due to non-payment of fees. Maharashtra Transport Commissioner Vivek Bhimanwar explained that the Porsche, imported in March by a dealer in Bengaluru, was temporarily registered in Maharashtra.

"When it was produced at the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO), it was found that a certain registration fee was not paid, and the owner was asked to pay the amount for completion of the procedure. However, the vehicle was not brought to the RTO for the completion of the registration process after that," Bhimanwar stated.

Officials noted that the road tax for electric vehicles registered in Maharashtra is exempt. For the Porsche Taycan model involved, the applicable registration fees totaled Rs 1,758, which included Rs 1,500 hypothecation fees, Rs 200 smart card RC fees, and Rs 58 postal charges.
