Citizens gathered on Saturday evening for a candlelight march to honour Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, two IT professionals who tragically lost their lives in a devastating car crash in Pune six days earlier. The victims, originally from Madhya Pradesh, were struck by a speeding Porsche, allegedly driven by a drunk teenage boy, in the Kalyani Nagar area.

Outrage Over Fatal Accident

The incident, which occurred in Kalyani Nagar, has sparked widespread outrage within the community. Eyewitnesses reported that the Porsche was travelling at an extremely high speed when it collided with the motorbike carrying Awadhiya and Koshta, leading to their untimely deaths.

Police Officers Suspended Over Investigation Lapses

In a significant development, two Pune police officers have been suspended for major lapses in the car crash investigation. Inspector Rahul Jagdale and Assistant Police Inspector Vishwanath Todkari from the Yerawada police station were suspended on Friday for "late reporting" and "dereliction of duty" in the case involving the 17-year-old juvenile driver.

Delays and Investigation Transfer

Additional Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil detailed that the officers failed to promptly inform senior officers and the police control room. Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar admitted there was a significant delay in collecting the juvenile’s blood samples, which were taken at 11 pm, hours after the 3 am crash. The investigation has now been transferred to the Crime Branch for further scrutiny.
