Under Section 144 of the CRPC, the Pune Police have issued an order prohibiting transgender people from demanding money at traffic signals. The police said that the action was taken in response to growing complaints about transgender people and beggars extorting money, particularly at intersections. Transgender people will not be permitted to visit residents or establishments without an invitation, according to the official statement.

Any breach of this order will be dealt with under Indian Penal Code Section 188, Disobedience to an Order Duly Promulgated by a Public Servant, and any other relevant section.

Restrictions Imposed

Pune CP Amitesh Kumar discussed the matter by saying that they are issuing an order under Section 144 of the CrPC, as per the observations of increasing discomfort with transgender people and beggars, particularly at intersections where they obtrusively demand money. These individuals are going door-to-door and impolitely asking money from people in their houses and places of work. The notification's main goal is to outlaw such gatherings and prohibit them from going to these people's homes or businesses without permission. This will be strictly enforced by the force, and CCTVs will be employed for surveillance purposes as well. If such a case is discovered, it will be handled according to law.
