Pune Couple Assaulted: In a terrifying ordeal, an indvidual identified as IT engineer Ravi Karnani and his family were allegedly attacked by a mob of 40 individuals while traveling on Lavale-Nande Road. The attackers, armed with iron rods, stones, and sticks, targeted their vehicle. Karnani claims the local police failed to provide adequate support, further alleging they were reluctant to file a formal complaint. A video of the incident, captured on a dashcam, has since gone viral.

What exacty happened with Karnani family?

Karnani described the attack, which occurred on Sunday, September 29, 2024, at around 1:40 am, as a life-threatening encounter. He and his wife were returning home from Bukum to Susgaon, Pune, when they were ambushed by a mob. “There were around 40 people in different pockets with iron rods, stones, and sticks, attacking our car. Two bikes and a car filled with local goons were chasing us at a speed of 80 km/h,” he recounted.

As the mob relentlessly pursued them, assailants on bikes repeatedly hit their vehicle and communicated with others to block their escape. "They were determined to stop us by any means, but as soon as we neared the city limits, they sped away," Karnani added. Fortunately, the entire incident was recorded on their dashcam.

Lack of police intervention

Seeking assistance, Karnani and his wife headed to the Paud local police station, as the attack had occurred within its jurisdiction. However, the couple claims that instead of filing a First Information Report (FIR), the police merely registered a Non-Cognizable Report (NCR) against three unknown individuals.

"The local police were completely unhelpful. My wife and I were made to wait from 6:15 PM until 9:20 PM, with no female officer present at the station to assist us," Karnani alleged. "Despite the gravity of the situation, they refused to take our FIR and provided minimal support."

How did the police respond?

According to Paud Police Officer Ganesh Pawar, the Lavale-Nande village area had been experiencing a spate of thefts, prompting the police to appoint local villagers to patrol and monitor the roads. However, Karnani questions this justification. "It didn't feel like they were protecting or patrolling. It felt like a coordinated attack on our family," he said.

The incident has left the Karnani family in shock and trauma, with Ravi expressing his frustration over the lack of action from the authorities. "We are still reeling from the trauma of this attack. It was a full-fledged assault on us, and we are seeking help from anyone who can offer assistance," he concluded.
