Pune hit and run: In a tragic hit-and-run accident, a 21-year-old food delivery worker lost his life after being struck by a speeding Audi in Punes Koregaon Park area. The incident occurred early Friday morning and led to the arrest of the driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal, who now faces charges of culpable homicide and rash driving. The accident also involved another two-wheeler, with three individuals sustaining minor injuries.Fatal collision claims life of young delivery workerThe victim, Rauf Akbar Shaikh, a food delivery worker, was killed in the incident that took place at around 1:30 a.m. on the ABC Farm Chowk to Tadigutta Chowk Road in Koregaon Park. Shaikh, who had just completed his final delivery for the night, was riding his scooter home when a speeding Audi collided with his vehicle, fatally injuring him.What actually happenedPrior to hitting Shaikhs scooter, the Audi had already collided with another two-wheeler, causing the three people riding it to fall and suffer minor injuries. According to police reports, the driver of the Audi fled the scene without stopping to assist the victims. The authorities were able to quickly identify the driver, Ayush Pradeep Tayal, using CCTV footage and other evidence. Tayal was later detained from his residence in Hadapsar, Pune, on Friday morning. He is reportedly involved in managing a company owned by a relative at the Ranjangaon industrial estate.A senior police officer involved in the investigation explained, The car and both scooters were traveling in the same direction. While attempting to overtake, the car first struck one scooter, causing the riders to fall. The Mundhwa police, led by Senior Inspector Neelkanth Jagtap, have registered charges of culpable homicide not amounting to murder against Tayal, along with other relevant sections related to rash driving and endangering life.Police also collected a blood sample from Tayal, which has been sent to Sassoon Hospital for an alcohol test to determine if he was under the influence at the time of the accident. Tayal is expected to be presented in court later today, where further legal action will follow. Sections from the Motor Vehicles Act have also been invoked in the case, adding to the gravity of the charges against him.This tragic incident has once again raised concerns about road safety and the recklessness of drivers in Pune, particularly in the Koregaon Park area, known for its high traffic density and frequent accidents.
