A tense gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday. The incident occurred just one day before the counting of votes for the Lok Sabha elections, which is scheduled for Tuesday, June 4.

The conflict began in the Nehama area of Pulwama after security forces received a tip-off about a possible terror hideout. Acting on this information, the police and security forces launched a search operation. As they approached the suspected hideout, they were met with gunfire from the terrorists.

Official statements

The Kashmir Zone Police quickly informed the public about the situation through a tweet: "Encounter has started at Nihama area of District Pulwama. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice."

Previous incidents

This encounter is not an isolated event in the region. Just a few weeks earlier, on May 7, a gunfight took place in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. During that operation, security forces killed two terrorists. One of them was Basit Dar, a known operative of the Resistance Front (TRF), which is linked to the larger terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Awaiting more information

As of now, details about the ongoing encounter in Pulwama are still emerging. The situation is being closely monitored, and updates are expected as the security forces continue their operation in the area.
