Indian wrestlers’ who are protesting against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexually harassing female wrestlers, met the Union Home Minister Amit Shah demanding the probe against the WFI chief.

Reportedly the meeting took place on Saturday night, where wrestlers pressed for the early chargesheet against the WFI chief.

Notably, Amit Shah, the Union home minister assured the wrestlers of the early resolution on the issues. Before this, the grapplers also met the Union sports minister Anurag Thakur who assured them of the unbiased probe into their allegations. It is to be noted here that the meeting came after a few days when wrestlers went to immerse their medals in river Ganga but were stopped by Rakesh Tikait, the farmer leader, giving the deadline of June 9 for the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

It should be noted that the national spokesperson for the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait, issued a warning to the Centre on Friday, stating that if WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is being accused of sexual harassment by the nation’s top wrestlers, is not detained by June 9 then farmer leaders will hold panchayats across the country in support of the wrestlers.

Tikait, who was present at a Khap panchayat to show support for local wrestlers, further declared that if their demands are not addressed in the allotted period, they will travel to Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. “We have decided that the government needs to address the concerns of wrestlers, and he (Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh) needs to be arrested, or else we will accompany the wrestlers to Jantar Mantar in Delhi on June 9 and demand that he be arrested,”

The Khap leaders also stated that they will declare the agitation if they were denied permission to sit at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on June 9.

Olympic medalists Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia travelled to Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar on Tuesday with their supporters to immerse their trophies in the Ganga River. Vinesh Phogat, who won the gold medal in the Asian Games, also joined them. The wrestlers, however, changed their minds and opted not to toss their medals into the river after farm elders convinced them otherwise. The farm leaders have requested five days to discuss their concerns.
