Prime Accused Ziaul Sheikh Nabbed in Murshidabad Double Murder, CCTV Evidence Sealed Case

The arrest of Ziaul Sheikh, the key suspect in the gruesome Murshidabad double murder of a father and son, marks a turning point in the investigation

One of the main accused in the murder of a father-son duo during the violence that broke out in Murshidabad district during a demonstration against Bengal's Wakf Amendment Act has been arrested. Police gave this information on Sunday.

Murshidabad Violence

A senior police officer said that this is the fourth arrest in the case of murder of two people in Jaffarabad of Shamsherganj. The arrested person has been identified as Ziaul Sheikh, a resident of Sulitala Purbapara, a neighboring village of Jaffarabad. He was absconding since the incident on April 12.


Ziaul was caught from Chopra
Ziaul used to sell clothes from door to door. So why did he commit this murder is being investigated. 

The official said the man was one of the main accused who hatched a conspiracy and instigated the mob to vandalise and murder the house of Hargobindo Das and his son Chandan Das on April 12. He said the police have several evidences, including CCTV footage and his mobile phone details, to prove his presence at the crime scene on April 12.


Two brothers have also been arrested

 Kalu was arrested from Murarai in Birbhum district while his brother Dildar was nabbed from the Bangladesh border area under the jurisdiction of Suti police station.


More than 100 FIRs registered
The third accused was arrested from Suripara, a neighbouring village of Jafarabad. The police officer said that the police have registered more than 100 FIRs in the Murshidabad violence cases. So far 276 people have been arrested in these cases. Three people have died in the violence that broke out during the recent protests over the amendment in the Waqf Act.
