Stating that Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent out an invite for a G20 dinner on September 9 in the name of ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India’, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Tuesday said the Article 1 in the Constitution can read “Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States” and accused the government of assaulting the idea of “Union of States”.

It is to be noted here that the term “President of Bharat” has been used for the first time in an official invite to heads of state attending the weekend G20 summit, replacing the traditional “President of India”. This significate change has created a buzz among the opposition parties, while India is all set to host the upcoming G20 Summit.

While the opposition leaders accuse PM Narendra Modi, BJP leaders hailed the use of ‘Bharat’.

Taking it to official social media handle, the senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh wrote, “So the news is indeed true. Rashtrapati Bhawan has sent out an invite for a G20 dinner on Sept 9th in the name of ‘President of Bharat’ instead of the usual ‘President of India’. Now, Article 1 in the Constitution can read: “Bharat, that was India, shall be a Union of States.” But now even this “Union of States” is under assault.

In a string of tweets, he continued saying that PM Modi is trying to distort history and divide India.

Meanwhile, BJP leaders hailed the use of term ‘Bharat’ in the invite of G20 summit which will be held in Delhi on September 9 and 10.
