President Droupadi Murmu has approved the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, and the Mussalman Wakf (Repeal) Bill, 2025. The two bills were ratified by Parliament during the budget session, a huge leap towards socio-economic justice and accountability. Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed the passage of the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, as a "watershed moment" that will favor marginalized groups who have been deprived of voice and opportunities. The bill seeks to enhance the management of Waqf properties, abolish complexities, and bring in transparency by using technology-based management.

Key provisions of the bill

  • Incorporation of All Muslim Sects: The bill aims to encompass all Muslim sects under the Waqf board.
  • Increased Transparency: The legislation seeks to inject transparency into Waqf property management.
  • Technology-Based Management: The bill recommends employing technology in enhancing Waqf property management.

Government's perception towards the bill

Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, 2025, into the Rajya Sabha, promising that the bill introduced is not anti-Muslim and will never hurt their religious sentiments. In Rijiju's view, the bill only pertains to properties and is intended to complete pending work of previous governments.
