On Wednesday, nineteen opposition parties including the Congress, have issued a joint statement stating they will boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building. PM Modi is expected to inaugurate the building.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Raghav Chadha has explained various reasons why the President should only inaugurate the Parliament.

He said that since the President occupies the number one position in the warrant of precedence, followed by the Vice President and the Prime Minister is third, Droupadi Murmu should inaugurate the building. He explained that as per the Indian Constitution, President is the Head of the State and all the executive actions should be taken in the name of the President of India.

Raghav Chadha, emphasising on the privileges stated that the President is the first citizen of India and a symbol of our nation’s solidarity, unity, and integrity and no bill is passed by both the Houses of Parliament can become an Act without the assent of President.

He said, “It is the President who appoints the Prime Minister of India. As head of State, President has an elevated position surpassing PM’s, who is only head of executive. President is looked up to by all parties to defend the Constitution that she pledged to protect.”

He tweeted:

Meanwhile, Chadha has been touring alongwith Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to seek support against Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi. After meeting Mamta Bannerjee, the top AAP leaders met Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray at latter’s residence in Mumbai on Wednesday. AAP leaders are also likely to meet NCP president Sharad Pawar to gain his party’s support against the Center’s ordinance.

It should be noted that the Centre, on last Friday, propagated an ordinance to create an authority for transfer and posting of Group-A officers in Delhi. This ordinance came a week after the Supreme Court handed over the control of services in Delhi.
