Badlapur assault case (X/MeghUpdates)

The Bombay High Court is set to urgently address a petition on Wednesday filed by the father of the deceased accused in the recent Badlapur school sexual assault case. This follows the tragic death of the 24-year-old, who was shot during a police encounter on Monday evening while being escorted by Thane crime branch officers. The post-mortem report revealed a single bullet wound on the left side of his head, identifying the cause of death as 'haemorrhagic shock' and 'bleeding.'

Post-Mortem details and forensic analysis

According to the sources, a team of five doctors from JJ Hospital conducted the post-mortem and requested a full-body X-ray to identify any foreign objects, but none were found. Medical sources indicated that samples were collected using a saline handwash method to detect any residue. Authorities confirmed that the procedure was videographed, and the body was handed over to the Mumbra police around 5 PM. Forensic samples have been sent for further testing.

The incident unfolded around 6:15 PM on Monday near the Mumbra bypass, where the accused was being transferred from Taloja Central Jail to the Thane crime branch under a transit remand. According to police statements, the accused became increasingly aggressive during the transfer. Shinde, a member of the police team, recounted that they had taken custody of the accused at 5:30 PM. It is alleged that the accused managed to snatch API Nilesh More's service pistol, firing three rounds and injuring More in the thigh. He then threatened the officers and discharged additional rounds toward Shinde and another constable. In defense, Shinde fired a single shot.

Officer injuries and family response

API Nilesh More is currently receiving treatment at Jupiter Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. The two other officers involved are undergoing treatment at a private facility and are experiencing considerable stress due to the incident. Meanwhile, the relatives of the deceased accused, who had initially refused to accept the body, have now agreed to take it from the hospital. The uncle of the deceased stated that relatives are expected to arrive by night to conduct the last rites on Wednesday.

In response to public outcry against the deceased, police officials are planning to request that the family conduct the last rites at night. On Tuesday, local Badlapur police inspected two cremation grounds where the ceremonies can be held under police protection.
