Chennai News: At his party’s first state conference in Chennai, actor-turned-politician Vijay asserted that politics is far from the cinematic field, calling it a “battlefield” that demands vigilance. Addressing members of his newly formed Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), Vijay urged party members to remain focused and serious. “Politics is not a cine field; it is a battlefield. It’s serious. Whether it’s dealing with a snake or politics, if we decide to take it up with seriousness and a touch of humor, only then can we endure in this field and handle opponents. We need to stay cautious on the ground,” he stated.
The 50-year-old politician emphasized that his party would not split between “Dravidian nationalism” and “Tamil nationalism,” likening the ideologies to “the two eyes of this land.” Vijay stated that TVK’s foundation is rooted in secularism and social justice ideologies, advocating for unity rather than isolation within Tamil identity.
Vijay criticized the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), alleging corruption within the party, led by what he described as “one family.” Accusing the DMK of misleading the public, Vijay said, “I have left my acting career to join politics. I am here as your Vijay, trusting all of you. There's a group singing the same tune, labelling everyone who enters politics and deceiving the people. They are involved in underground dealings. Under the guise of the Dravidian Model, they are misleading people as an anti-people government."
Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin extended his support, saying, "I wish my dear friend Vijay all the best for his future." Vijay joins other actors who have entered politics, including Kamal Haasan, founder of Makkal Needhi Maiam, and the late Vijayakanth, who launched Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam in 2005.
