Despite the Bihar government's crackdown on illegal sand mining and the police's heightened vigilance, the state's sand mafia continues to operate with impunity. In a shocking turn of events, the sand mafia opened fire on the police during a raid, prompting a fierce gun battle that rattled the entire region. The dramatic scene resembled something from an action movie, as police officers fired back, while the sand mafia aimed at law enforcement.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday at the Chakwara sand ghat, located at the border between Banka and Munger districts. The police had launched a raid to tackle illegal sand mining when they were met with violent resistance from the sand mafia. Not only did the criminals pelt stones at the officers, but they also opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate.
The police team had been dispatched after receiving multiple complaints of illegal sand mining in the Belhar police station area. During the operation, the sand mafia launched a sudden attack on the officers, leading to an exchange of gunfire. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported.
Following the skirmish, the police seized several tractors involved in illegal mining. Rajkishore Kumar, the SDPO of Belhar, confirmed the incident and assured the public that the crackdown would continue. He stated that the operation against illegal sand mining is ongoing, and strict action will be taken against the culprits.
In the wake of the violence, additional police forces have been deployed to the area to maintain law and order. The administration is closely monitoring the situation and has heightened security in the region to prevent further incidents.
