After BJP’s Locket Chatterjee, the Kolkata Police have summoned Trinamool Congress MP Sukhendu Shekhar Ray for allegedly spreading misinformation related to the brutal rape and murder of a post-graduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The summons comes in response to Ray's claims that a sniffer dog squad was deployed to the crime scene three days after the victim's body was discovered on August 9.

It is important to note that this move by the Kolkata Police follows the issuance of notices to BJP leader and actor-turned-politician Locket Chatterjee, as well as two doctors, Kunal Sarkar and Subarno Goswami, for their alleged roles in spreading misinformation about the case on social media platforms. According to the police, the claims are rubbish.

Meanwhile, it is worth noting that just hours before receiving the summons, Ray expressed serious concerns about the handling of the case. He called for the custodial interrogation of both Dr Sandip Ghosh, the former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, and Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal. Ray's remarks included a demand for answers to questions regarding the delay in deploying the sniffer dog, the demolition of a wall in the hall, and the influence of powerful individuals in the case.

Tweet Ignites Internal Dispute Within TMC

Ray's call for the interrogation of Commissioner Goyal has sparked internal dissent within the Trinamool Congress. Kunal Ghosh, another prominent party leader, has opposed Ray's demand. Ghosh defended the Commissioner, stating, "I also demand justice in the RG Kar case but strongly oppose this demand regarding CP. After getting the information, he has tried his best. Personally, CP was doing his job, and the investigation was in a positive focus. This kind of post is unfortunate, that too from my senior leader."

Public Solidarity and Speculation

Earlier on August 13, Ray had demonstrated his commitment to the cause by announcing his participation in a nationwide midnight protest over the rape and murder incident. He expressed his solidarity with the protesters on social media, citing his own family as a motivation for joining the movement.

This stance has led to speculation about his future within the Trinamool Congress. In response to concerns about potential repercussions, Ray defended his actions, stating, "Please need not worry for my fate. Blood of a freedom fighter flows in my veins. I'm least bothered."

Not only Ray, the Kolkata Police have also sent notices to BJP leader Locket Chatterjee and doctors Kunal Sarkar and Subarno Goswami, intensifying the investigation into allegedly spreading of misinformation about the case.
