Violence during Durga Idol immersion

The chaos began on October 13 when a Durga idol immersion procession in Bahraich turned violent, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old man who was fatally shot. The violence escalated quickly from stone-pelting to gunfire, with large-scale arson following soon after. Enraged crowds set homes and vehicles ablaze, prompting authorities to deploy police forces across the district to restore order.

Superintendent of Police Vrinda Shukla assured the public that efforts were being made to ensure peace. She stated, “We have deployed sufficient police forces at all locations, and no issues have arisen so far,” addressing concerns over the safety of ongoing religious events.

CM Yogi Adityanath's response

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath swiftly responded to the unrest, taking immediate action to maintain law and order. In a public statement, he affirmed that those responsible for the disruption in Bahraich's Mahsi area would face strict punishment. "No one who disturbed the peace will be spared," he tweeted. He further assured that security would be provided to everyone, while stern action would be taken against both the instigators and those who failed to prevent the violence.

CM Yogi also directed authorities to engage with religious organizations to ensure the smooth and timely completion of the idol immersion, reinforcing the government's commitment to maintaining peace.
