New Delhi: In Bihar, a female police officer has been suspended following accusations that she assaulted Suraj Kumar, a private employee whom she had detained for two days on suspicion of theft. The incident took place in Hathidah, where both the station house officer, Nidhi Mishra, and her associate Deepak, face an FIR filed by the victim, Suraj. As a result of these allegations, the station house officer has been suspended from duty.

What exactly happened?

According to Suraj, he had been employed there for four months, and the accusations of theft arose only after he returned from a trip to Kashmir with the station house officer. He further claims that demands were made for 50,000 rupees in exchange for his release, and his mother was assaulted when she resisted this demand. Sita Devi subsequently filed a complaint with senior police officials, leading to disciplinary action against the station house officer. On the morning of July 3rd, Suraj Kumar was allegedly detained without valid cause until Deputy Superintendent Lohan intervened to secure his release.

Corruption by Police officers

Suraj Kumar is a resident of Hathidah village. He alleges that he was repeatedly beaten over suspicions involving a theft of 27,500 rupees. When Suraj's mother, Sita Devi, visited the station to secure her son's release, she too reportedly faced severe physical abuse. Concerned for her son's safety, Sita Devi approached senior police officials, prompting Deputy Superintendent of Police Aparajit Lohan to intervene and launch an investigation into the matter.
