Kaur was known in the media as “Daku Haseena”. This nickname is inspired 1987 Bollywood movie of the same name, in which Zeenat Aman starred as the eponymous dacoit.#2 Jaswinder Singh and Mandeep Kaur, the lead suspects, were newly-wedded, tying the knot on February 2023. The police have tried to shine some light on Kaurs personal life, which revealed that she took several steps to amass wealth – including working as an insurance agent and an assistant to a lawyer, and taking loans.#3 The actual heist in question took place in Ludhiana on June 10. The heist prompted Punjab Police to launch a manhunt for the suspects, and they were finally apprehended nine days later.#4 The heist took place in CMS- Connecting Commerce, a cash management firm based in Rajguru Nagar, Ludhiana. The heist took place on early hours of 10th June.#5 The operation in question, launched by Punjab Police to apprehend the suspects, was nicknamed Operation Lets Catch the Queen Bee. The operation consisted of five teams, four of them based outside Punjab, and one working in-state.#6 According to Punjab Police, the mastermind behind the heist is Dehlon-based Mandeep Kaur, who was assisted by her friend Manjinder Singh, who was an employee of CMS. Manjinder was promptly arrested by the police, and ₹5.75 crore was recovered from his person.#7 According to Mandeep Singh Sidhu, Ludhiana Commissioner of Police, a kin of the accused couple falsely claimed that they had escaped to Nepal. However, the police soon caught wind of the real plan: the couple planned to visit the holy shrines in Haridwar, Kedarnath, and Hemkund to pay their respect to the deities for their successful heist.#8 Acting on the tip, the police hatched a unique plan to nab the culprits. They realised that it would be difficult to single out the suspects in a sea of devotees, so they set up a juice stall, offering free Frooti drinks to the devotees. Soon enough, the suspects took the bait, and removed their face coverings to sip the drinks provided by the police. This is how the police identified them.#9 The police did not immediately arrest the suspects even after they were identified. They allowed them to visit the Gurudwara, and pay their respects. When they exited the shrine, the police chased them, and soon took them into custody. According to Commissioner Sidhu, ₹12 lakhs were recovered from the couples two-wheeler, and ₹9 lakh were recovered from their residence.#10 With the latest arrests, the police have taken 9 out of the 12 accused into custody. Three people are still absconding.
