A gruesome incident unfolded on Monday evening between the villages of Thamba and Bajitpur, near the Athmalgola police station in Patna, Bihar. The deaths of a couple were not the result of a road accident, as initially suspected, but were the result of a brutal attack by criminals. The husband, 25-year-old Manish, and his wife, 22-year-old Kanchan Devi, were murdered after attempting to rescue a familiar young man from a violent assault.

Violent attack leads to multiple casualties

The couple, residents of Thamba village, were violently stabbed by the assailants. Manish was stabbed multiple times, including in his eyes and other body parts, while Kanchan Devi also suffered fatal stab wounds. Tragically, the criminals also attacked their two-year-old son, Ayush, but fortunately, he survived and is out of danger.

The attack began with the murder of Sanjeet Kumar, a resident of Thamba village, who was the first victim of the assailants. The couple, knowing Sanjeet, rushed to his aid, only to become the next victims. The criminals, enraged by the couple's intervention, killed them in cold blood. It was later discovered that the attackers had also wounded another migrant worker, Naveen Kumar, from Fulelpur village, during the incident.

Police initially misleads the public

At first, the Athmalgola police wrongly classified the incident as a road accident. It wasn’t until hours later that the true nature of the crime came to light. The police were slow to act, failing to investigate the situation thoroughly or gather statements from witnesses, leading to widespread frustration among local residents.

Despite the crime occurring around 6 PM, the police did not reach the scene until much later. The families of the victims and locals questioned the initial mishandling of the investigation. A post-mortem conducted later that night confirmed the murders, while reports indicated that the initial police response had failed to capture the gravity of the situation.

Action and investigation intensified

After the murders, Patna's Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Avakash Kumar, visited the crime scene, speaking with local villagers and directing further investigation. The SSP emphasized the seriousness of the case and assured the public that an SIT (Special Investigation Team) would be formed to expedite the case. Authorities are now actively working to arrest the culprits involved.

The shocking and tragic murder of the couple has left the local community in disbelief, with many still grappling with the brutal nature of the crime.
