New Delhi: Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), strongly condemned the actions of local police officials in Awantipora on Thursday. A video surfaced showing the brutal thrashing of a journalist by the police, prompting Mufti to speak out against the injustice.
Mufti highlighted the case of a young man who had mysteriously disappeared in the Awantipora district. The family of the deceased has been demanding a thorough investigation into his disappearance. Mufti's condemnation comes in light of the police's apparent lack of response to the family's pleas for justice.
Sharing the video on social media platform X, Mufti wrote, "JK Awantipora Police’s handedness. A young man from the area died under mysterious circumstances & his family has been rightfully demanding a probe. Instead of coming to their rescue Jammu and Kashmir police has instead assaulted QNS journalist Irshad Hajam for reporting the truth. Urge IGP to take action immediately."

In her post, Mufti urged the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to take immediate action against the officers involved in the assault on journalist Irshad Hajam. She emphasized the need for the police to protect citizens and uphold justice rather than resort to violence against those seeking to report the truth.
The incident has sparked widespread outrage and calls for accountability. Mufti's condemnation highlights ongoing concerns about police conduct and the need for transparency and justice in handling such cases. The demand for a rightful investigation into the young man's mysterious death and the assault on the journalist underscores the urgent need for reform and accountability within the police force.
