According to the sources, police also arrested another person under the NDPS Act in Taran Taran district from the village of Cheema Bath along with him on Friday.

Police have also seized the four grams of methamphetamine, known locally as ‘ice’, from them. While addressing the media, the Jalandhar Rural SSP Ankur Gupta said that Hardeep Singh along with other were under the influence of drugs at the time of arrest.

Soon after detention, Harpreet Singh and his associate Lovepreet Singh tested positive. He also disclosed that the drug was purchased from Sandeep Arora, a Ludhiana-based man who has also been arrested.

The police have also said that they have videographed the entire incident. SSP Gupta said the department will soon issue a detailed press release. Notably, Khadoor Sahib MP Amritpal Singh has first gained attention for his anti-drug campaign in Punjab. Amritpal Singh, the leader of Waris Punjab De, won with high margins in Punjab, in the just-ended Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, responding to the allegations, father of Amritpal Singh, Tarsem Singh, said that people are trying to defame their family with the mission, so that Amritpal Singh cannot come out of jail. He alleged that such arrests have been made to tarnish the image of Amritpal Singh.

It is important to note that Amritpal Singh contested the Lok Sabha elections from jail after being arrested from Rode village, for his alleged links with Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale. He was charged with anti-national activities, following which he was placed under the National Security Act (NSA) and transferred to Dibrugarh jail in Assam. He recently, took oath as the Member of Parliament under tight security.
