The entire region of Jammu and Kashmir, including the area that has been occupied illegally by Pakistan, is, was, and will remain an integral part of India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said on Monday.

The veteran politician was speaking at an event in Jammu, where he discussed the present political situation in Pakistan. This comes in the backdrop of a joint statement released by India and the USA, which called on Pakistan to cease providing a safe haven to terrorist cells in the region. The Pakistani foreign office called the statement “misleading and unwarranted”.

Rajnath Singh asks Pakistan to focus on itself and not Kashmir

Rajnath Singh said that Pakistan should focus on solving the several internal issues that it was facing, including a volatile political scenario. He said that Pakistan was bringing up the issue of Kashmir – the ‘bogey of Kashmir’, in his words – in a futile attempt to avoid its internal problems.

Rajnath Singh said that Pakistan’s repeated claim to Kashmir does not give it any legitimacy in international stages, and does not change the ground reality. “A unanimous resolution has been passed in the Parliament of India regarding PoK that it is a part of India only. Not one but at least three proposals of this intention have now been passed in the Parliament,” he said.

According to Rajnath Singh, the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir have been raising slogans to join India, and therefore, India does not need to work hard to reclaim PoK. According to Singh, “A large part of Jammu and Kashmir is under the occupation of Pakistan. People on the other side are seeing that people are living their lives peacefully in J-K. People living in POK going through a lot of suffering and they will raise demand to go with India.”

USA-India joint statement calls on Pakistan to solve terrorism issue

Rajnath Singh’s attack on Pakistan’s Kashmir policy comes as India and the US released a joint statement, asking for Pakistan to take concrete action against the terrorist groups that are active on its soil, such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The statement has been accompanied by the US agreeing to provide sophisticated weaponry to India to maintain peace in the subcontinent.
