PM Narendra Modi to unveil Sela Tunnel project in Arunachal Pradesh worth Rs 825 crore

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the world's longest tunnel built at an altitude of 13000 feet in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh today. This tunnel will provide all-weather connectivity to Tawang. With this, the distance to China border will be reduced by 10 kilometers. 

About the Sela tunnel

Sela tunnel is the world's longest two-lane tunnel built at an altitude of 13000 feet. This tunnel will not be affected by snowfall. This development project will not only provide faster and more efficient transportation routes in the region but is of strategic importance for the country. This tunnel is built at a cost of Rs 825 crore.

Foundation stone in February

The Prime Minister had laid the foundation stone of this tunnel in February 2019.This tunnel in Arunachal Pradesh, adjacent to China, will prove to be a game changer in helping soldiers reach the forward areas of Tawang sector quickly. This tunnel will enhance the capabilities of the Indian Army on LAC. This will also ease the movement of Indian army and weapons. Apart from this, along with security, there will also be economic development of this area. 

About Sela Tunnel project

Sela Tunnel Project consists of two tunnels. The first 980 meter long tunnel which is a single tube tunnel. The second 1555 meter long tunnel which is Twin Tube Tunnel. This is one of the longest tunnels in the world built at an altitude of more than 13000 feet. It has been constructed using the new Austrian tunneling method and incorporates safety features of the highest standards.
Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of several development projects worth more than Rs 41,000 crore in Arunachal Pradesh.
