After two days of ruckus on a no-confidence motion by the opposition in the monsoon session of Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to address the Lok Sabha on Thursday in response.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday confirmed that the PM will be present at the Parliament, he said, “The PM will be present in the House on Thursday to reply to the no-confidence motion.” Apart from Singh, union minister Amit Shah also confirmed the same.

Notably, the opposition moved a no-confidence motion against the Modi government on July 26 which was accepted by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. However, it is to be noted here that Modi-government won’t lose the vote as his party (BJP) and its allies have a majority in the Lok Sabha.

Points to be noted here:

  • The no-confidence motion was moved by the INDIA bloc against the ruling NDA government which set the stage for a parliamentary battle over Manipur violence and other raging issues.
  • Union Minister Rajnath Singh said that PM Narendra Modi will be present in the Lok Sabha on Thursday to debate Manipur.
  • A high-tension war of words is going on between Central government and the opposition.
  • Parliament monsoon session has been facing a ruckus since it started, on demand of PM Modi to break his silence in the house on Manipur violence.
  • Addressing the parliament yesterday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the central government and questioned why PM Modi has not visited Manipur yet. “The Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur because he doesn’t consider it a part of India. You (BJP) have divided Manipur,” he said amid loud protests from the treasury benches.
  • In response to Rahul Gandhi, union minister Smriti Irani fired back saying, “You killed Bharat Mata in Manipur” (Bharat Mata ki hatya aapne Manipur mein ki), “Entire country has seen Congress leaders clapping and thumping desks when Rahul Gandhi spoke of the death of mother India” (Bharat maa ki hatya ki baat karne wale kabhi bhi mez nahi thapthapate. Congressiyo ne baith kar maa ki hatya ke liye mez thapthapaai hai…).
  • Irani further said, that Manipur is not divided, it is an integral part of India.
